Summer Letter 2025

Dear Friends,
This Summer we are considering the partnership we have with two good Christian agencies.
The first is Tearfund. This is the purpose of the charity as expressed on their website:
Tearfund is a Christian charity that partners with churches in more than 50 of the world’s poorest countries. We tackle poverty through sustainable development, responding to disasters, and challenging injustice.
The things which matter? First, they are glad to call themselves a Christian charity. Second, they are committed to working with churches. Third, they are realistic, focussing on development which is sustainable, emergency relief for the most urgent of disasters, and a voice which is consistent with Christian values and compassion.
Already we have worked with Tearfund to provide a good focus for the Harvest Supper Quiz. And Tearfund has been the beneficiary of some of our special (bucket) collections for Disaster Appeals.
So it is good that we have a special Sunday to hear a speaker from Tearfund on 6th July at both of our main morning services. Buddy Owen is an experienced church leader who now oversees Tearfund’s church relationships in our wider region. Come and hear about the work. Be more confident in our partnership with this Christian charity.
The second is Bible Society. We have used Bible Society resources in our special services at Christmas and Easter. They produce very good resources and I am considering how we might use one of their most popular courses.
Bible Society have branches worldwide in many countries, and especially in countries where Bibles are in great demand, and where publishing and distribution is a difficult challenge. Jean and I support their Bible a Month Club, enjoying the news of the exciting response to the spread of ‘God’s Word Written’ across our planet.
Their Bible Course has now gone through several editions and the latest one is excellent. The streamline says: ‘It’s your chance to explore the world’s bestseller like never before.’
I’m hoping we can do the course in the Autumn, with some input in our Sunday morning services, which is then followed up in a course session during the week. I’ll keep you in touch with the progress of our plans in the weekly Link notice sheet. Look out for the course plans when we launch in September.
With my prayerful best wishes,
Rob
