Past Cases Review 2 (PCR2) – making our churches safer
In 2007, the Church of England commissioned a national Past Case Review which sought to look at the handling by the Church of child protection cases over many years.
All parishes nationally are required to respond by checking records and reporting to the review all known cases of concern about the behaviour of clergy and church officers towards children and vulnerable adults.
This an important task and part of the Church’s ongoing scrutiny of its handling of safeguarding files. It is being carried out to ensure our churches are safer places for everyone.
Individuals who wish to make representations to the PCR2, or who need to come forward with information or make any disclosures regarding church-related abuse, are encouraged to make direct contact with their Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser. In the Chester Diocese, this is Pauline Butterfield:
by email: firstname.lastname@example.org
or by phone: 07703 800031.
Alternatively, they can call the dedicated helpline: 0800 80 20 20 operated nationally by the NSPCC, independently of the Church.
This information has also been posted on the notice-boards at the Parish Church of St Luke, Holmes Chapel. You can download a copy of the notice with the contact details here.
