October Letter 2025
October is a special month for the life of St Luke’s Church. As well as the Harvest Festival on Sunday 5th October (with services at 9am and 10.30), we have a rare treat on Sunday 19th October.
On Sunday 19th, it is our Confirmation Service. The Bishop of Stockport, Sam Corley, is coming to St Luke’s.
Six people are either getting Confirmed or standing up to re-affirm their Baptismal Vows.
Confirmation is an important opportunity for those who were baptised as infants, to make those vows for themselves, and to be prayed for by the Bishop, for the Holy Spirit to give them every grace to fulfil their promises and to give Jesus a lifetime of worship and service. Four people are getting Confirmed.
We have one person who thinks they might not have been baptised as an infant, so they will be baptised and confirmed.
Confirmation is also an opportunity for already committed Christians (who have joined us from other protestant denominations and churches) to say: I am now a full member of the Church of England, and St Luke’s is where I am worshipping and serving the Lord.
For those who were baptised and confirmed when young, but now want to say the vows for themselves in their more mature years, we have ‘Re-affirmation of Baptismal Vows’. Two people have decided to take this opportunity to mark this new chapter in their commitment to Jesus. They will participate in the first and longer part of the Confirmation service.
It will be a great morning. The service will start at 10am. You are very welcome.
St Luke’s is seeing new people come to church. It is part of a national trend, particularly in the towns and cities where there are more of Gen Z. Those who had turned their backs on God and organised religion, have begun to recognise they are missing something important. People are starting to recognise that Life without Christianity is not better for us, or our families or our nation. So those people whose parents never took them to church, are wanting after all this time to try church for themselves.
If this sounds a bit like you, come and try church. Look into Christianity. I mean real Christianity, not going through the motions. Seek the Lord while He may be found. And see if you might be one of those joyful people who get Baptised/Confirmed/Reaffirm Vows next time the Bishop comes to St Luke’s.
Yours in Christ,
Rob
