MU Meeting 20th September 2023
It was lovely to welcome our members back after the summer break as well as members from Sandbach Heath and Brereton who were able to join in our meeting. After a short service and notices, we introduced our speaker, John Tudor, who told us about his venture into writing poetry.
John retired eight years ago and joined the local U3A Writing Group and there he was encouraged to write poetry, something that was very new to him. This venture has helped him in many ways including surviving cancer. His poems were very thought provoking as well as humorous and a pleasure to hear.
One was related to the Manchester bombing, which was very moving and close to our hearts. Others were about The Lady in Red, which is a mystery, The Lady Next Door, Liverpool FC losing the Cup, and the mystery disease – Covid. John then asked us if we would like to share a favourite poem with the rest of the group and several members did so – all very different and entertaining. John ended by singing a song he had written called ‘Not Obeying Rules’.
We then all enjoyed refreshments and chatting together with John.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 18th October in the Church Hall at 2pm, when Jean McClaren is coming to speak to us. If anyone would like to join us, you’ll be given a warm welcome.
