MU Meeting 16th April 2025

Well, not quite the planned meeting with Ellie Dick from the Community Centre as planned, as unfortunately she had to cover classes at The Community Centre through staff absences in the Easter holidays. So instead we were pleased to invite Councillor Chris Jackson, Chair of Holmes Chapel Parish Council.

Chris gave us an excellent talk about the work of the Parish Council, as the voice of the local community. It has two paid officers, who do a wonderful job and twelve elected councillors as well as two Dane Valley Ward, District Councillors.

He explained all the work the Parish Council does in the village, where it gets its finance from, what it is used for, how we can report anything we think needs looking at. The Parish Council is the Landlord of the Community Centre, and deals with all the work that needs doing there. They have upgraded Church Walk; improved the Dane Valley Way footpaths; and also organises all the Summer Celebration events, the D-Day Commemorations,
Christmas Tree and lights, amongst many Civic events. They support the Youth Council, and there are plans to install outdoor gym equipment for older teenagers and adults, and an art exhibition at the Village Fair.

One of the most interesting innovations has been the displays in the Tesco window, which has showcased all the groups and activities that the Village has to offer. Members were amazed at how much work the Parish Council puts in to keep our Village safe and looking good. They were very appreciative of Chris coming to talk to us, and really enjoyed spending time with him.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 21st May at 2pm in the Church Hall with David Shaw as our inspirational speaker. At this meeting tickets will be on sale at £5 a person for our Strawberry Tea on Wednesday 11th June. Do come and join us.
