This month was our annual fundraising meeting for the Overseas Branches. To make it a special meeting we usually invite a speaker, in this case two speakers,  and follow the talk with a Strawberry Tea.  This year we invited Christine and Brian Donlon to come and tell us about an amazing holiday they have had recently to celebrate a special birthday.

They wanted to go somewhere that they had never visited before and chose to go to South Africa. They started their holiday in Cape Town before they went on a Safari . Cape Town is a fascinating city with so many different attractions. Table Mountain being just one of them, it’s a beautiful mountain reaching up to the skies. In Port Nicholas at the waterfront it was very lively with dancers and people selling local crafts. A coastal walk gave spectacular views of the Indian Ocean. The Botanical Gardens were a delight, as were the views of the Indian Ocean.

Once they had left the city to start their Safari that was when the animals came into their own. It was possible to go quite close to them. They flew to Port Elizabeth where the Safari would start. Here the accommodation was individual and outside. The day started early with beautiful scenes.   Food was cooked and eaten outside and was delicious. Being able to see the animals at such a close range was amazing.

Following the very interesting talk we enjoyed another spendid Strawberry Tea!

Our next meeting will be on July 15th at 2pm in the Hall when we will have a planning meeting with a buffet.
