MU  Christmas Meeting 11th December 2024

On Wednesday 11th December, twenty members joined us for our Christmas meeting, this time with two invited speakers.

After some prayers and verses suggested by Chester Diocese, Steph Kirkham told us about St Luke’s Craft groups which she runs in the Church Hall on most Tuesdays and Thursdays during school term-time. She brought some examples of things they had made and explained how the Tuesday evening Craft Fellowship group had quickly outgrown the Massey Room and so she started a second Thursday afternoon Community Craft group meeting at 1.15pm in the main hall. This group has more room to work in and can take on new members from the wider village community.

It was very encouraging to hear how successful the craft groups have become, providing an opportunity for people who want to meet up with others and explore different craft activities. No craft experience or creative talents are necessary! Everyone works at their own pace. People can bring in their own projects if they want to but Steph suggests ideas to work on if necessary.

After Steph’s talk, Wendy Macdonald spoke about St Luke’s Community Choir which meets in the Church Hall most Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm and is open to the wider village community. Again, no particular talents are necessary! Just go along and enjoy singing with others.  Wendy explained how singing is good for our mental health and how nice it is to get together and enjoy lots of different kinds of songs, some serious, some silly, and many well-known. She then accompanied us in the singing of some favourite carols from the Bethlehem Song sheet.

We then shared coffee, tea and mince pies, and discussed how we think the Chester Diocese might celebrate the 150th anniversary year of MU. Members also brought donations instead of presents for their prayer Partners, and £150 was raised. The MU Big Give initiative should double that for us and the donations will be given to an MU project.

Next month, Canon Rob will lead a short Communion service for our Epiphany meeting on 15th January, when four new members will also be enrolled. All members are asked to bring a plate of food for our Epiphany celebration ‘party’.

Please do come and join us.
