Knitted Bible Take 2 – October 2023: a great success!

St Luke’s was most fortunate this month to have hosted once again the 36 Knitted Bible scenes created by, and loaned from, St George’s United Reform Church, Hartlepool*. Over the course of a very busy fortnight, we had 21 classes visiting from the village primary schools, plus local Brownies and Rainbows, our own youngsters from Genesis and Exodus, as well as many adults visiting from Holmes Chapel and beyond.

There was much awe and wonder evident as children and adults alike delighted in the creative and imaginative way teachings and stories from the Bible were brought to life through woolly scenes. One child was even heard to say:

“This is the best day ever”

having visited the Bible scenes.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this exhibition possible – the helpers, which included the Yarn Bombers for the knitted bunting outside the Church, and the many stewards, who helped transport, set up and create a warm welcome for visitors. It was a wonderful team effort.

*The Knitted Bible has been produced by a team of knitters from an enterprising and ordinary church in Hartlepool (St George’s United Reform Church) which is happy to loan it out free of charge to interested Churches up and down the country. The Knitted Bible now includes 36 scenes from the Bible with colourful backdrops and knitted figures.  These simple images help both children and adults to imagine some of the key events of the Old Testament and New Testament.
