D-Day 80th Anniversary in Holmes Chapel

June 6th, 2024 marked the 80th anniversary of D-Day.  In towns and villages across the nation, and in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories, beacons and lights of peace were lit from late evening to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the momentous and costly D-Day landings on the five Normandy beaches.

The event in Holmes Chapel  was very well organised in a dignified and memorable manner by HC Parish Council working with Churches Together, and was centred around St Luke’s. 

The evening commemoration started with a bell peal for Peace from the tower of St Luke’s, followed by a service in church including original newsreel footage showing the enormous scale of the landings and the human cost involved. 

After a moving reading of the International Tribute by seven readers beside the village War Memorial, the beacon was lit in the churchyard
